Great opportunity to work with a GM who lives and breathes inclusivity and a one team ethos.  New in role the GM has reviewed the structure and needs an Operations Manager with a strong production background.  The first stage of this role will be to manage the production function and with development and progression this will grow into the site lead role.


Due to the nature of the product category and customer profile, the essential background will be chilled food so the complexity and pace isn’t a learning curve.  Coming in with that knowledge, knowing that curve balls can happen at any time due to the nature of the manufacturing process and timescales, you can get to work on what needs to be delivered and how to develop the team.


A structured approach, making sure the basics are in place, GMP is at a high standard, what needs to be done is well communicated to the production teams and this role will really start to take shape.

The Senior Operations Manager is responsible for:

  • The leadership of the production function through accountability and ownership.
  • Building cross functional relationships
  • Effective decision making, taking SHE, quality, customer service, commercial and financial aspects into consideration, in a time pressured environment.
  • Driving optimum customer service, quality, and efficiency.
  • Working with agency labour, understanding their importance to the site and ensuring full inclusion.
  • Building and developing production teams working to a high standard with consistency.
  • Managing the entire process from prep, production through to packing.


What backgrounds are required for this Senior Operations Manager role?

  • A strong manufacturing background in the chilled food sector of the food industry – essential.
  • Core discipline must be production.
  • Experience of unionised sites.
  • An understanding of lean manufacturing, value stream mapping, SIC.
  • Successful delivery in similar deadline driven environments.
  • Leadership ability and general presence on the shop floor is evident and tangible.
  • Excellent numeracy skills, able to bring factory data to life for your team.
  • Able to drive the production teams through understanding what needs to be done, to plan effectively and react correctly when needed to meet the daily plans and avoid surprises.
  • Strong, precise and effective communication skills.
  • Previous examples of driving a continuous improvement culture to deliver sustainable change.
  • Resilient and tenacious in nature.


This is a key role on the Senior Management Team of this site working for a GM who is a great ambassador for the business.  Encouraging, positive and straight forward looking for someone who can grow to be a strong number two for the site.  There are further opportunities in the longer term due to the scale of this organisation.
