Production Manager

Production Manager

Based South Yorkshire

In any food manufacturing environment, a good production manager is the key link in the factory.  What makes a good production manager?  The transferrable skills for this role are all about people development, being close to the team and fully understanding the process and its capabilities.

Once those basic principles are in place, the systems are in place and starting to bed in then measures can be set that once achieved, will have those tangible effects required in this factory.

This role needs someone who understands manufacturing, what it is like to work with systems and processes that everyone can follow.  What it means for everyone in the team to understand what each team and everyone in that team needs to deliver that day, week, month for the production function to meet their goals.  This is the ideal environment for someone who understands ambient production, what changes can be made to alter performance and improve overall efficiencies.

In this role you need to look at the day to day and further ahead at the week and month to ensure you are driving a manufacturing unit that constantly reviews what’s gone well and what can be improved on so the team is moving forward together on an improvement journey.

Working closely with the site lead, together it is an opportunity to head up the production team and be a change agent.  You need ambition and the resilience to deliver the results in those first few months.  Those results will be through working with people.

The Business

A successful food manufacturer with excellent infrastructure and kit.

Supplying major UK retailers in own label product categories.

Part of a larger group.

Category captain in their field.

Significant investment planned in the next 12 months.

Outstanding site – modern and progressive attitude both in the operation and culture.

The Role

Managing a medium sized shift Monday to Friday.

Working closely with the production teams with a heavy focus on people development.

Driving process improvement drawing on previous experience and successes.

Motivating and gaining the trust and buy-in from the production teams through open communication and training.

To constantly identify opportunities and continually improve the production business unit.

Knowing the detail and being hands-on in the factory.

Reporting into a site lead with a refreshing open and upbeat style.  There is plenty to be done and the positive support of an experienced site lead will make all the difference.

Ideally you need a background in food production for retail to understand the challenges involved and the detail involved in audits, food safety, GMP etc.

You have worked in environments that consistently deliver against a KPI suite and know how to take a team to that same standard.

As mentioned above, your recent roles will have been delivering improvements through your understanding of the daily activity in the factory and the issues involved.  Being fully integrated in the team and the issues faced on the shop floor enables that flow of information and how to see what the levers are to make the required change.

Encouraging accountability and responsibility is always required in production management but the first plan is to ensure the basics are in place, that everyone believes that more can be achieved and is part of that improvement process.

We know everyone is working to their maximum right now so we are happy to work out of hours, don’t let a demanding job stop you from joining a growing business that could be that next step to grow your career or simply a better business and environment for you.
