Health Safety and Environment Manager

Health Safety and Environment Manager

£60- £65k DoE

Location Nottingham

The HSE Manager in any manufacturing environment is now a very different role.  You need to be a subject matter expert, an ambassador for HSE in the business and an engaging proactive communicator instilling the correct culture across all three areas of the role.  As a key member of the Senior team, you will build a strong network of relationships both internally and with the relevant external agencies and contacts.

Reporting into a refreshingly open and straight forward Site Director, the HSE Manager has an opportunity here to make a name for themselves, making a real impression on this site.  Are you looking for a Site Director that is enabling and promotes a strong health and safety culture?  This is what you will gain in this role, and this can make a real difference to the influence that you have within the site.

What other responsibilities are involved in this role?

  • Setting the SHE strategy and culture for the site, working with the site SHE team.
  • A member of the Senior Management Team reporting into the Site Director and working closely with Group SHE.
  • Full responsibility for the Environmental Permit, Environmental Management System, PUWER and machinery
  • A key driver behind safety behaviours with implementation of the correct processes and procedures to always underpin that approach.
  • Collating the data for all site HSE statistics.
  • Responsible for the site’s insurance.
  • Waste management including control, licences, standards, and reporting.
  • Be the point of contact for the company’s insurance and other third parties.
  • React at speed to all accident investigations with a thorough, detailed, and accurate process.
  • Support the Occupational Health team on all assessments.
  • Work closely with all Group SHE policies ensuring the site is aligned across all areas.

What experience do you need?

  • Food industry or FMCG experience in an HSE management role is essential so the complexities of the role and speed the operation runs at and how to work around that is familiar.
  • Experience of all the above areas as well as examples of driving improvements and change in previous roles.  How did you drive that change?  How did you work with the site teams to achieve it?
  • Knowing the factory in detail, where are the critical areas and how do you focus and manage those for risk avoidance.
  • An ability to get back to basics, take in the wider issues and identify the key areas to focus on in those early stages in the role.
  • A subject matter expert in your field – you make this discipline come alive.
  • A clear communicator both written and verbal.  People want to listen because you make the subject matter relevant and you can tap into the key areas with everyone in the factory at all levels.
  • NEBOSH qualified.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of risk assessment techniques and how to apply those.
  • Reactive with the correct focus and balance to the issues faced in any fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience on DSEAR regulated sites a significant advantage.

Talk to Sarah in the Novus team for more information on the SHE Manager role.  The Site Director has a straightforward, down to earth and open style as mentioned before and that makes all the difference to the senior HSE professional on any site.
